So as we were on our way to Nicaragua I was thinking to myself about everything we did throughout Costa Rica. During the first part of the trip, my group and I were doing a lot of manual labor throughout the community in La Vigia, which was good. Personally, it always feels great to be able to help the physical needs of a community or individual. As I was thinking further into it, I remembered feeling that it was nice to help these people but I didn’t feel like we were doing a good job getting the word out and evangelizing. But on multiple occasions, we were told that people recognized us because they saw us picking up trash, cleaning brush, digging a hole, etc.

To get to the point I think this is a great reminder that people are always watching what you do. In our case, it was more than often because we are from the States and we stuck out from the locals. But it made me think of all the days throughout my life I possibly gave off a bad image and didn’t represent the Lord well. That’s why I wanted to write about this topic. Even though we might not think anything about what we do, people see and watch us. So on our days that it seems like everything is going wrong and we get short with someone, there could be a person in the background taking that in. Or on the positive side if we are out in public giving a helping hand there could be someone close by that notices.

What I’m trying to make clear is as Christians and people we are constantly being watched by others. That one interaction could push someone farther or closer to the Lord. It could be a large deciding factor for that individual’s walk. That’s why this topic is very important, the Lord calls us to be His ambassadors to the world. I feel like we often go through the motions and think “oh well”, I know I have personally gone through that process. I think we also take it lightly sometimes because we don’t care what others think. In reality, we are called living representations of Christ and that’s something we should all strive for.

  2. Thank you so much for sharing!! It is hard to remember, but people are always watching, good or bad, and we need to try to reflect Jesus in everything we do!!

  3. Thank you Daegan something I know I need to always remember cause unfortunately we all fail at times. Love you!

  4. It’s kinda crazy just how much influence we can have through the smallest things – positive or negative. I often take it for granted and forget to live constantly in a Christ-honoring way. This was a great reminder!
